Why I Started The Local Inc.

Welcome to The Local Inc.! My name is Jessica Marley, and I wanted to take a moment to share the story behind this passion project of mine.

Discovering a New Passion

When I moved to British Columbia from Ontario a little over four years ago, I brought with me over 15 years of experience in the legal field. While I loved my legal career (and still do!), I found myself with a desire to do something more – to build a community and make a tangible impact on the lives of those around me.

My journey into the world of community building began at a local market as a vendor. It was here that I felt a strong pull towards belonging within the small business community. This experience ignited a deeper passion for fostering connections and supporting local businesses, and I knew I wanted to get involved.

Creating A Community

Recognizing the potential to make a significant impact, I began organizing markets across BC. These events quickly became more than just markets—they evolved into vibrant hubs of community engagement, small business support, charitable contributions, and so much more. I saw firsthand the incredible talent and dedication of local vendors, and it inspired me to create a platform that would amplify their voices and businesses.

This led to the birth of The Local Inc., an initiative dedicated to promoting the essence of shopping, living, and loving local. The Local Inc. is not just a business; it is a celebration of BC’s rich culture and the people who make it special. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and appreciated.

Shop Local, Live Local, Love Local

Throughout this journey, my family has been my rock. Their unwavering support and involvement have been crucial in realizing this vision. From helping with event logistics to providing emotional encouragement, they have been by my side every step of the way. Together, we are committed to celebrating the unique charm of BC and fostering a sense of belonging and connection.

Whether you are a vendor, a customer, or a supporter of local small businesses, we invite you to join The Local Inc. community. Let’s create something wonderful together—I can’t wait to see you at our next event!

Thank you for being a part of our journey,

Jessica Marley ♡
